Magnesium: The Relaxation Mineral
Magnesium is a natural mineral that the body needs to function properly. It is a natural part of a healthy diet, however many people remain deficit in this critical nutrient. Magnesium as a supplement can help with many issues including problems sleeping.
Magnesium is well known for its ability to improve and relieve issues sleeping, such as insomnia. A major source of insomnia is from excess cortisol levels due to stress. Magnesium regulates hormones in the body including cortisol, so it can reduce the excess cortisol that is preventing you from sleeping. Magnesium also works to help you relax. Many things can disrupt the body’s circadian rhythm such as poor sleep schedule, late nights, eating too late at night, lack of exercise, lack of exposure to sunlight during the day, exposure to bright light in the evening and more. If your body isn’t producing melatonin at the right time you may have trouble falling asleep.

Zinc has been found to have interesting effects on both dream quality and sleep quality. A common symptom of a zinc deficiency is trouble sleeping as zinc as zinc defficieny has been linked to lower levels of melatonin. People who supplement with zinc have reported improved sleep.
